REVIEW: Salma Hayek Nuance for CVS

Hello everyone!

Hope your holiday season is off to a great start. I've been so busy that I'm already MUY behind with my posts here at NMB! One thing I wanted to share with you was a fun event I attended with my mom for NUANCE-the beauty line by Salma Hayek for CVS.

Skin like Salma's? Yes, please! (image via Wikipedia)
Mom and I got to try out the entire line at the beautiful Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. I'd been using a few of the products for a while, since I am a devoted CVS shopper (I absolutely adore their customer rewards program, "Extra Care Bucks"), but I was so impressed by the entire line! My New Favorite Shampoo! #Giveaway #ETYY #llblog

Hi everyone!

Can you believe it's almost October? Can someone please tell Mother Nature that she can turn down the heat here in Socal, already? The great thing about this time of year is that I always get plenty of GIVEAWAYS to share with all of you and today is no different!

As many of you know, I am a SERIOUS couponer. That means I generally have NO brand loyalty and love to try new products all the time. Sometimes, though, I must admit this "cowgirl" approach to shopping comes back to bite me. Case in point: shampoo.

Aveeno Review and GIVEAWAY! #ETYY #LLBLOG

Hola everyone!

How's the summer treating you so far? We are having a great one here in San Diego. I've always loved summer, but when my husband and I were first married and living in northern New Jersey, summer was always a really difficult time for him. Why? Well, my hubs has extremely sensitive skin and every summer he would get poison ivy! It grew everywhere in our neighborhood of West New York (yes, we lived in "West New York, New Jersey").

DARE TO BARE ARMS? YES I DARE! (Part 2) #DoveBeauty #Spon

Since last week's post about my adolescent "arm issues" I've been thinking a lot about those days and how I let a completely unfounded insecurity hold me back from enjoying myself and being comfortable during the hot summer months. I wish I could go back in time and tell that girl to take off her jacket, for Pete's sakes!

DARE TO BARE ARMS? YES I DARE! (Part 1) #DoveBeauty #Spon

Happy July everyone!

From what I read on the blogosphere, it is at least as hot everywhere else in the US as it is here in San Diego. It's always pretty warm here all year long, in fact, I remember kids wearing shorts and sandals during Christmas festivities at school. July is usually the hottest month, it also happens to be my birthday month! I have plenty of photos of my childhood birthday parties, with everyone wearing cute 70s tank tops and sunddresses (even the occasional TUBE TOP) but once I hit adolescence, there don't seem to be quite so many photos like that.  Yeah, after I finished middle school there was a definite shift in my wardrobe. With my birthday coming up, I've been spending a lot of time reflecting on my summer fashions during those high school years. Ah, the 80s! I wish I could say I regret the fashions or the hair, but I don't. I regret NOTHING! Okay, maybe the home perm, but that's it! Many of my recent reveries have been triggered by friends posting old photos of me on Facebook like this:
Could I find a bigger jacket?

BODY IMAGE SUNDAYS! We could all learn a lot from Diamond Lil...

Lately I've been thinking a LOT about Mae West. She was definitely one of a kind, a brilliant enterprising playwright as well as, quite possibly, the most formidable bombshell ever to hit Hollywood. She fought her entire career, not only for herself, but for equality among the sexes as well as the races.

This is a woman who wroteand starred in a Broadway play called "Sex"-in 1918. In 1927 she was sent to prison on NYC's Roosevelt Island for "corrupting the morals of youth."

BODY IMAGE SUNDAYS! Picasso's "Four Bathers"

If there's one artist who showcased the female body in all it's forms, it's Picasso. He was such a prolific painter and sculptor that one could take days and days looking at his work. Right now I'm loving this piece from 1921, Quatre Baigneuses (The Four Bathers).

Picasso painted this around the same time he was designing sets for the Ballet Russe, which might have influenced the "stagey" feeling of this painting. I love the theatrical way the light plays off of the women and how much Picasso seems to delight in their shapes. And I especially love how at ease the women seem.

Body Image Sundays! The "Baker Dancer"

It occurred to me today that I haven't been flexing my Art History chops so much here at Nacho Mama's Blog. Art has always been a big part of my life and continues to be a big source of inspiration and motivation for me, especially when it comes to body image. SO I've decided to start a new weekly series, sharing some of my favorite empowering images of women throughout Art History.

Many of you know that, before deciding to go back to grad school, I had a career at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Met is FULL of beautiul representations of women throughout the centuries!
